| This remarkably preserved 32" x 20" antique map, titled "Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut," was published by G.W. Gray & Son, a prominent Philadelphia-based firm established in the late 1860s. Renowned for producing one of the most successful atlases and for being "one of the last to employ hand coloring on maps," G.W. Gray & Son's meticulous detail is evident here. Likely dating from the 1870s, this map clearly delineates county and town boundaries with subtle hand-coloring, offering a fascinating historical snapshot of these New England states in the post-Civil War era. The inset map provides additional localized detail. This piece is an excellent find for collectors of antique maps, New England history enthusiasts, or as a distinctive decorative item. |
